Surah Al Baqarah also explains about humanity and the stories of the Prophets. The first 20 verses of Surah Al Baqarah are interesting to study in more depth. The meaning of the first 20 verses of Surah Al Baqarah explains three categories of humanity.

This category is based on their belief in Allah. What is the meaning of the first 20 verses of Surah Al Baqarah? The following is the meaning of the first 20 verses of Surah Al Baqarah.

Al Baqarah means female cow. It is called that because one part of this letter explains the story of the slaughter of a female cow that was ordered by Allah to the Children of Israel. Al Baqarah is also called Surah Alif Lam Mim because the first verse in the surah contains three Arabic letters, namely Alif, Lam, and Mim.

This letter is called Fustatul Qur'an, which means the Peak of the Qur'an. This is because Al Baqarah contains several laws that are not mentioned in other surahs. Al Baqarah covers various topics and contains several commandments for Muslims such as ordering fasting during the month of Ramadan and avoiding usury. Al Baqarah also retells the stories of Prophets Adam, Ibrahim and Moses.

Verses 1-5: groups of believers

3 categories of humanity

The first category of humanity, consists of people who wish to protect themselves from danger, thereby leading them to seek guidance, believe in the unseen, pray, give alms, and believe in all the Prophets.

This explanation is found in the first to fifth verses which have the meaning:

"Alif Lam Mim. This Book (Al-Qur'an) has no doubt in it; guidance for those who are pious, (namely) those who believe in the unseen, perform prayers, and spend part of the sustenance that We have given them, and those those who believe in (the Qur'an) which was revealed to you (Muhammad) and (the books) which were sent down before you, and they believe in the existence of the afterlife. They are the ones who receive guidance from their Lord, and they are the lucky ones .

Verses 6-7: The Disbelievers

Surah Al-Baqarah about 3 categories of humanity

Those who fall into the second category will be depicted with guidance and unbelief in them. Moreover, they will hide it and refuse to let its reason and light penetrate their minds and hearts.

The explanation about this group of disbelievers is in verses six and seven which have the meaning:

"Indeed, those who disbelieve, it is the same for them, whether you (Muhammad) warn you or you do not warn them, they will not believe. Allah has sealed their hearts and hearing, their vision has been closed, and they will suffer a severe punishment. "

Verses 8-20: The Hypocrites

Al-Baqarah about 3 categories of humanity

The last category is formed from the most complex groups. This group is people who outwardly assert their beliefs - in line with the first group. However, they internally work to destroy the good works of the believers, thus siding with the second group of disbelievers. These people are called hypocrites.

Allah describes them in great detail because they are the most conflicted group. They are also among the worst of the three because, unlike those who clearly disbelieve, they lie to Allah, themselves, and the believers. It is this group that does the most harm to the people.

The explanation about hypocrites is explained in verses eight to 20, which have the meaning:

"And among people there are those who say, "We believe in Allah and the Last Day," but in fact they are not believers. They deceive Allah and the believers, but they only deceive themselves without realizing it. In their hearts there was a disease, then Allah added to the disease; and they will have a painful punishment, because they lied.

And when it is said to them, "Do not cause harm on the earth!" They answered, "In fact, we are the ones who make improvements." Remember, in fact they are the ones doing the damage, but they don't realize it.

And when it is said to them, "Believe as others have believed!" They answered, "Shall we believe as those who lack understanding believe?" Remember, in fact they are the ones who lack understanding, but they don't know. And when they meet people who believe, they say, "We believe." But when they returned to their devils (leaders), they said, "Indeed, we are with you, we were only making fun."

Allah will mock them and let them drift into error. They are the ones who bought error with guidance. So their trade was unlucky and they got no guidance. Their example is like those who light a fire, but after it illuminates their surroundings, Allah takes away their light and leaves them in darkness, unable to see.

They are deaf, dumb and blind, so they cannot return. Or like (a person who is hit by) heavy rain from the sky, accompanied by darkness, thunder and lightning. They plug their ears with their fingers, (avoid) the sound of thunder because they are afraid of dying. Allah includes those who disbelieve. The lightning almost caught their sight. Whenever (lightning) shines, they walk under it, and when darkness falls on them, they stop. If Allah had willed, He would have taken away their hearing and sight. Indeed, Allah is Almighty over all things."
